Why choose us?

Tutoring with a purpose.

Founded by a local Denver teacher with a deep passion for learning and students, Bright Minds Tutoring and Mentoring aims to change the landscape of tutoring in the Denver Metro Area. We understand that each student has a unique learning style and study habits, and how difficult it can be to receive the one-on-one support they need in the classroom. Our focus is on the individual student, with a goal of fostering continual curiosity and growth. Our tutoring sessions go beyond homework completion, rote memorization, and repetitive calculations. Our goal is to foster thinking practices in students, allowing them to grow into individuals who crave challenge and autonomy in learning.

Research shows that student success is tied to a sense of belonging and the development of social-emotional skills. As such, Bright Minds aims to go beyond traditional tutoring. Our mentorship offering allows students to create a deeper, one-on-one connection with their tutor. These sessions combine subject matter help with more general personal or social advising. These sessions allow for regular, personalized learning and bridge the gap between academic and social/personal dimensions of schooling to create an environment for student potential to flourish.

Bright Minds Tutoring and Mentoring Founder, Abigail Smith

Hello!

My name is Abigail Smith.

I am the founder of Bright Minds Tutoring and Mentoring. As a teacher, high school valedictorian, and two-time graduate of a top ten university, I understand and empathize with the struggles of students today. During my time as a student, I saw first hand the value of having teachers and tutors who have a genuine and deep passion not only for their subject matter, but also for their students; I believe that teachers and tutors with backgrounds and experience beyond education have the potential to create a huge impact in the classroom and beyond.

While teaching, I have tried to best embody this, to be honest and transparent as I attempt to help students navigate the rough waters of growing up and learning, coupled with these unprecedented times. Teaching is an ever evolving landscape, and I have seen the growth that can arise in students who have access to teachers who both embrace and value this change, as they continually adjust their practice to best serve their own students. The students are at the core of my passion for this job.

These beliefs led me to start Bright Minds. The modern educational sphere is one that requires students to be flexible thinkers who can adapt to the ever-changing world around them. My focus when creating Bright Minds centered around this idea. I wanted to create a tutoring company that focuses on creating opportunities for students to interact with the subject material as critical thinkers, offering them true growth and learning rather than just memorization or homework completion.

I earned both a BS in Industrial Engineering and an MS in Secondary Education from Northwestern University. I taught high school math at a large selective-enrollment high school in Chicago,IL,  and then at a small independent school in Tampa, FL. I currently live in the Denver metro area and teach math full-time at a local independent school. I have experience teaching Geometry, Algebra 2, Precalculus, AP Statistics, AP Calculus AB, and College Algebra, and I hold a current teaching license in grades 5-12 math.

My AP Stats tutor's approach to teaching was exceptional, as they focused on helping me truly understand the material rather than just memorizing it. By encouraging critical thinking and active engagement with the subject matter, they helped me develop a deeper appreciation for the topic and a greater ability to apply my knowledge in practical situations. Overall, their personalized teaching style was highly effective and made a significant impact on my academic success."
